St. Helena Hospital Foundation and Adventist Health: Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot - November 24th
The St. Helena Hospital Foundation and Adventist Health St. Helena’s AHEAD Program invite the community to start Thanksgiving Day with exercise and fun at the Fourth Annual AHEAD Turkey Trot, taking place this year on November 24.
The fun run invites people of all ages to enjoy some movement and time outdoors before sitting down to their Thanksgiving feast. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at Crane Park, located at 360 Crane Avenue, before taking off at 9 a.m. Participants will enjoy a flat and scenic two-mile route. Strollers and polite dogs on leashes are welcome. New in 2022 is a costume contest with prizes for the best individual and group costumes. For entry to the event families can choose to donate to the AHEAD Program or bring nonperishable canned or packaged food to be distributed to local families in need by the UpValley Family Centers.
AHEAD stands for Adventist Health Early All-Around Detection, a hereditary cancer screening program at Adventist Health St. Helena. Research has shown that up to 10% of cancers are due to factors that are passed on from one generation to the next. The AHEAD Program is reducing the risk of hereditary cancer by encouraging genetic screening.
“The Thanksgiving holiday brings generations of family together and is a wonderful time to share gratitude for the blessing of good health,” says Dr. Candace Westgate, an Adventist Health St. Helena obstetrician and gynecologist and medical director and founder of the AHEAD Program. “It can also be a time to check in with your family about any history of cancer so you can be aware and take preventive measures to keep enjoying time together for years to come.”
